Once weevils enter kidney beans and chickpeas, they gradually spoil the grains. Due to which they become unfit for eating. In such a situation, it is important to store them properly in advance so that the problem of mites does not arise.

1. Dry thoroughly in the sun

To store kidney beans and chickpeas for a long time, you can adopt an easy method, which is to dry them in the sun. Whenever you buy kidney beans or chickpeas from the market, do not keep them directly in the box. First expose them to sunlight for 2-3 hours and then store them. By doing this, their moisture gets removed, which reduces the possibility of weevil infestation and the kidney beans and chickpeas remain fresh and weevil free for a long time.

2. Use airtight containers

Always use glass or steel airtight containers to store rajma and chickpeas. If you keep them in a plastic container, there is often a possibility of air getting into it easily, this increases the moisture and leads to the growth of mites. In such a situation, now you should use your glass or airtight container.

3. Add neem leaves or bay leaves

You can also use neem leaves or bay leaves to protect kidney beans and chickpeas from mites or insects. Actually, neem leaves have natural insecticidal properties, such as Azadirachtin. Its strong smell and bitterness helps in keeping away weevils and other grain insects. You can also keep some leaves of neem or bay leaves in the container with kidney beans and chickpeas.

4. Use salt or asafoetida

To keep Rajma and Chickpeas fresh and mite free for a long time, you can also use salt and asafoetida. For this, make a bundle by mixing salt and asafoetida in a cotton cloth and keep it in the Rajma-Chhole box. It helps in absorbing moisture, which prevents the growth of mites.

5. Store in the freezer

You will find this method a bit strange. But it is quite effective. Actually, tie Rajma and Chickpeas in a packet and keep it in the freezer. The cold temperature of the freezer does not allow mites to grow and the grains remain fresh for months. You can try this method.
