Celebrity Traitors star Alan Carr has confessed his family and friends are in "shock" at how successfully he has performed on the BBC programme.

The comedian is among the Traitors on the series, but whilst his fellow Traitor Jonathan Ross has been exposed and banished, he has thus far managed to remain undetected. With the finale approaching, he and Cat Burns - the other remaining Traitor - still appear to have escaped suspicion.

Viewers have been taken aback, as Alan has let slip several giggles when questioned by the Faithful contestants throughout the series. And it appears his loved ones are rather astonished too, reports Wales Online.

"Everyone's in shock basically as I am known for not having a 'poker face' or not being able to lie without sweating and my glasses getting steamed up," the Chatty Man star admitted.

"The strange thing is, weirdly even though we've been murdering and banishing national treasures, Olympians, intellectuals and popular entertainers, my family are still strangely proud of me which is frankly quite odd."

Alan said it feels "amazing" to have reached the final of the show, which is hosted by Claudia Winkleman.

He also revealed that he has enjoyed reading what people think of the series and the manner in which the game is being played.

"The public scrutiny and all the theories, some actually quite bizarre, have been really interesting to read, but I guess when you have such huge ratings this analysis of your every move comes with the territory," he said regarding the response from fans.

"Someone sent me a clip of a psychologist on a local radio station saying I wouldn't do well on the show because I'm playing a role and I'm not the 'real' Alan Carr."

"That's quite a statement considering I've never met this lady," he went on. "It seems everyone has an opinion!"

Alan has now secured his place in the final five of the show, alongside Traitor Cat Burns and Faithful contestants David Olusoga, Nick Mohammed and Joe Marler.

The Celebrity Traitors Finale airs tonight (Thursday November 6) at 9pm on BBC One and iPlayer
