Rising Incidents of Crop Residue Burning in Punjab

On Thursday, Punjab recorded 351 incidents of stubble burning in agricultural fields, bringing the total to 3,284 since September 15, according to official data.


Data from the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) indicates that the highest number of crop residue burning cases were reported in the districts of Sangrur, Tarn Taran, Firozpur, Amritsar, and Bathinda.


As per the statistics, by October 29, the state had documented 1,216 incidents of stubble burning, reflecting an increase of 2,068 cases. In previous years, the state saw 49,922 incidents in 2022, 71,304 in 2021, 76,590 in 2020, 55,210 in 2019, and 50,590 in 2018, with significant occurrences noted in districts such as Sangrur, Bathinda, and Amritsar.
