Flight Refund Rules: A technical glitch in the ATC system at Delhi Airport affected more than 200 flights. Find out if passengers will receive a full refund.

Flight Refund Rules: Thousands of people travel by air every day, and a large number of them fly from Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport. It is the country's busiest airport. On Friday, chaos erupted when a sudden technical glitch occurred in the Air Traffic Control (ATC) system. The situation deteriorated within minutes.

More than 200 flights were affected, and many planes were stranded on the runway. This sudden technical glitch disrupted the travel plans of thousands of passengers. Now, many passengers may be wondering if airlines provide refunds in such cases. Find out when and how flight passengers receive refunds.

When do they receive a full refund?

Certain terms and conditions have been established for refunds for passengers traveling by flight. If your flight is cancelled due to airline's fault or technical reasons, a full refund is given. According to DGCA regulations, if a flight is delayed by more than three hours from its scheduled departure time and you do not wish to travel, you can receive a full refund.

However, if a flight is diverted or cancelled after boarding, the airline must provide the passenger with an alternative flight or a full refund. However, in circumstances such as weather, security, or ATC issues, companies may offer partial refunds or rebookings, but this depends on the airline's policy.

How to get a refund?

If you require a refund, you must first request it on the platform where the ticket was booked. If you purchased the ticket through a website or app, go to the Manage Booking section and click on Cancel Flight. Depending on the airline's policy, the refund is credited to the same account from which the payment was made within 7 to 10 business days.

If the ticket was booked through a travel agency or third-party app, the refund process may be slightly longer. Many airlines also offer passengers a credit shell for future travel, which can be used for the next 12 months.
