Internet connectivity will be available in rural areas

The state government has announced that Starlink services will be launched in government institutions, rural areas and important public infrastructure. Districts like Gadchiroli, Nandurbar, Dharashiv and Washim, which are classified as remote or deprived, will get connectivity in the first phase. It is not possible to get fiber network in geographical conditions and less populated areas. Hence, such areas will now be connected with the Starlink network.

A new chapter will begin in Maharashtra

Fadnavis has said that the initiative is linked to the state’s ‘Digital Maharashtra’ campaign, which focuses on digital empowerment and last-mile connectivity. The partnership will also be integrated with other government projects like electric mobility infrastructure, coastal development programs and disaster management systems, where non-stop connectivity will be crucial.

Starlink’s entry in India will get a boost

Starlink, a subsidiary of Elon Musk’s SpaceX, operates the world’s largest satellite communications network in low-Earth orbit. As of October, about 8,811 Starlink satellites were in orbit, according to Space.com. Out of which 8,795 were active. The company is awaiting regulatory approval to launch commercial satellite broadband services in India from January 2025.
