At its recent board meeting in Dubai on Friday, November 7, the global cricket body confirmed that 6 teams each from both the men's and women's categories will be included in the 1900 paris olympics Will play in this games for the first time after. The initial idea of only top 6 teams according to ICC T20I rankings has now been scrapped. Now there will be such an arrangement in which the top team from each region/continent will get a place and the sixth team will come through the global qualifier.
An ICC official said that discussions have taken place regarding the participation of the teams and it has been decided that the top ranked team from each region/continent will participate, while the sixth team will come from the Global Qualifier. ICC will share its details soon, but the roadmap is almost finalized. This arrangement means that every top team from every region/continent will be included in the first five teams.
This simply means that based on the current rankings, India will qualify from Asia, Australia from Oceania, England from Europe, South Africa from Africa and it will be interesting to see whether USA, considering they are the hosts, will qualify from America or West Indies will take that spot. The details of the Global Qualifier are likely to be shared by the global cricket body soon. There is every possibility that the match between India and Pakistan will not take place in LA28, because the details of the Global Qualifier are still not known.
In the detailed statement issued after the meeting, ICC mentioned the success of women's cricket and also gave an update about the LA28 games. The media release said the ICC reviewed ICC's ongoing discussions with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games (LA28) as cricket continues to carve out its place in the global multisport landscape. 6-6 teams will participate in both men's and women's T20 events in LA28. A total of 28 matches will be played during this period. It will start from 12th July 2028.
