Hollywood stars Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone are set to co-produce a Miss Piggy movie. The film will see the diva puppet from The Muppets franchise get her first solo outing without Kermit The Frog, who she has had a long-running on-and-off again relationship with on TV and in several movies.

Speaking on the Las Culturistas podcast, Lawrence said: "I don't know if I can announce this but I'm just gonna. Emma Stone and I are producing a Miss Piggy movie". She said US actor and playwright Cole Escola, who starred in the award-winning Broadway comedy Oh, Mary!, was writing the script. The Hunger Games and X-Men star, 35, shared more details about the project during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday evening.

She said she had discussed the idea with a friend during the pandemic and how it would be "so funny" if Miss Piggy was cancelled.

The actress stressed that was "not the plot necessarily" but it "got the wheels turning" about the starring role for the character, hailing her as a "feminist icon". Lawrence also revealed that her friend and La La Land star Stone, 37, was the "Muppet head" out of the two, while she branded herself as the "ideas guy".

Miss Piggy started off as a background character on The Muppet Show back in the mid-1970s, but soon began to steal the limelight on the TV series with her sassy personality.

The Muppet Show, which celebrates its 50th anniversary next year, is due to air a one-off special featuring US pop star Sabrina Carpenter.

Disney announced the return of fan-favourite characters "to the Muppet Theatre to put on a variety show filled with music, comedy, and plenty of chaos".
