Australia’s T20 captain Mitchell Marsh got to hear a question at the Gabba ground in Brisbane, which he did not expect at all. The fifth T20 between India and Australia on Saturday (November 8) was washed out due to rain, but during the post-match presentation, Adam Gilchrist asked Marsh the big question which was being discussed for a long time.
Gilchrist asked Marsh who would captain the team in the 2026 T20 World Cup, himself or Pat Cummins? On hearing the question, Marsh stood without answering for a moment. However, he immediately said that he would take charge of Australia.
Gilchrist said, “Who will lead? You or Pat? If Pat Cummins is fit, will he captain or will you continue?” To this, Marsh smiled and replied, “Good question Gilly… I think I will.” Gilchrist then asked, “You mean, you are the official T20 captain? If Pat Cummins comes, will he play under you?” “I think so,” Marsh reaffirmed. At the end of the conversation, Gilchrist said, “Thanks for clarifying.” Now whether it was just a joke by Marsh or a confirmation will be known only when the time comes.
Meanwhile, Marsh also said that Australia’s T20 team is quite set and the performance in BBL will not have a big impact on the selection. BBL will be a platform for players to have fun and find their rhythm.
