The Chhattisgarh government has unveiled an extensive holiday calendar for the year 2026, which is set to benefit government employees and teachers significantly. According to the official announcement, a total of 107 holidays have been designated for the upcoming year, comprising 18 public holidays, 28 general holidays (excluding Saturdays and Sundays), and 61 optional holidays.
However, some major festivals will fall on Sundays, meaning employees will miss out on additional holiday benefits. Notably, Mahashivratri and Diwali will not have separate holidays due to their occurrence on Sundays. The state government's calendar indicates that employees will have opportunities for rest and celebration throughout the year, with significant festivals such as Republic Day, Holi, Eid, Raksha Bandhan, Independence Day, Dussehra, Diwali, and Christmas included.
This holiday calendar will be applicable across all departments, educational institutions, and government offices in Chhattisgarh. The option for optional holidays will remain unchanged, allowing employees to select a limited number of days based on their convenience. Employee organizations have welcomed this announcement, expressing that the calendar will make 2026 a year of relief and rejuvenation.
