Submit Your Life Certificate by November 30: Step-by-Step Guide for Pensioners
The month of November holds special significance for pensioners across India. Every year, retired government and private sector employees are required to submit their Life Certificate (Jeevan Pramaan Patra) to continue receiving their monthly pension. This certificate serves as official proof that the pensioner is alive. Failure to submit it by the due date can lead to the temporary suspension of pension payments.
Until a few years ago, pensioners had to visit banks or post offices in person and stand in long queues to complete this process. However, with the government introducing the Digital Life Certificate (DLC) service, pensioners can now easily submit their Life Certificate from the comfort of their homes using online platforms like Jeevan Pramaan Portal or the UMANG App.
The Life Certificate is a vital document that ensures only living pensioners receive pension benefits. It helps the authorities prevent fraudulent withdrawals in the names of deceased pensioners.
The government mandates that the certificate be submitted between November 1 and November 30 each year. For senior citizens above 80 years, the submission window starts early — from October 1 to November 30 — to make the process easier for them.
To successfully generate or submit a Life Certificate, pensioners need the following:
Aadhaar Card Number
Mobile Number linked with Aadhaar
Pension Payment Order (PPO) Number
Bank Account Number and IFSC Code
Biometric information (Fingerprint or Iris Scan)
Pensioners no longer need to visit a branch in person. They can easily create and submit their Life Certificate through two digital methods: the Jeevan Pramaan Portal and the UMANG App.
Connect your laptop, desktop, or mobile device to a fingerprint or iris scanner.
Visit the official website – jeevanpramaan.gov.in.
Click on “Get a Certificate.”
Download the application and enter your Aadhaar Number and PPO Number.
Perform the biometric verification using the connected scanner.
Once verified, your Digital Life Certificate will be generated automatically and sent to your bank or pension disbursing agency.
Download the UMANG App from Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
Open the app and type “Jeevan Pramaan” in the search bar.
Tap on “Generate Life Certificate.”
Enter your Aadhaar Number and PPO Number.
Complete the biometric verification.
Your digital certificate will be generated and directly shared with the respective department or bank.
If a pensioner prefers not to use the online process, they can still submit their certificate offline at any of the following locations:
Bank branch
Post office
Common Service Centre (CSC) near their area
Simply carry your Aadhaar Card, PPO Number, and Bank Passbook. The staff will verify your details, take your biometric verification, and complete the process on the spot.
Pensioners can easily locate their nearest CSC centre in two ways:
Visit jeevanpramaan.gov.in and click on “Locate a Centre.”
Or, send an SMS in the format JPL [PINCODE] to 7738299899.
Example: Type JPL 110001 and send it to the given number to receive the nearest CSC details for Delhi.
The Life Certificate submission is an annual process that ensures smooth and uninterrupted pension disbursal. With digital tools like Jeevan Pramaan and UMANG, pensioners can now avoid the hassle of physical visits and complete the task within minutes from their homes.
Those who have not yet submitted their certificate should do so before November 30, 2025, to avoid any delays or disruptions in pension payments.
