Indian Army is going to start India-Sri Lanka joint military exercise ‘Mitra Shakti’ with the army of neighboring country Sri Lanka. In this joint exercise, soldiers of both the countries will develop joint strategies for anti-terrorism operations. This military exercise will also further strengthen the strategic partnership between India and Sri Lanka.
According to the Indian Army, this joint military exercise will start from November 10 at the Foreign Training Node in Belagavi, Karnataka. Here the armies of both the countries will conduct military exercises till 23 November 2025. This is the 11th edition of the India-Sri Lanka joint military exercise ‘Mitra Shakti’. Exercise ‘Mitra Shakti 2025’ aims to strengthen operational synergy between the two armies so that joint operations can be conducted more effectively in urban and semi-urban areas.
This joint military exercise reflects the shared commitment between India and Sri Lanka towards regional peace, stability and security. Also, it further deepens the defense cooperation, cordiality, friendship and mutual trust between the armies of the two countries. In this joint exercise, soldiers of both the countries will develop strategies to work jointly in situations like anti-terrorism operations, humanitarian assistance and disaster management.
Under this, joint training, tactical exercises, collective operation plans and field training missions will be organized. Exercise ‘Mitra Shakti’ started in 2013 and has so far established itself as a major bilateral military cooperation program between the armies of India and Sri Lanka.
The main objective of the exercise is to enhance joint military skills and understanding, preparation for UN peacekeeping operations, coordinated operations in urban and semi-urban combat scenarios and promotion of regional security and friendship. Defense experts believe that this exercise will not only strengthen defense cooperation but will also further strengthen the long-term strategic partnership between India and Sri Lanka.
At the same time, all three armies of India are also conducting important military exercises like ‘Trishul’ these days. Indian Army ‘Thar Raptor Brigade’ is conducting high intensity combined arms operations in realistic desert battlefield conditions. These operations are being conducted under Exercise Trishul. The exercise is being conducted by aviation units of the Thar Raptor Brigade in coordination with mechanized formations of ‘Sudarshan Chakra’ and ‘Konark’ corps. This entire operation is going on under the auspices of the Southern Command of the Indian Army.
According to the Indian Army, these combat exercises are part of the Southern Command’s desert exercises. Southern Command has conducted powerful desert exercises like ‘Marujwala’ and ‘Akhand Prahar’. These exercises are being conducted under the tri-service (Army, Navy, Air Force) framework ‘Exercise Trishul’.
