Former captain of Bangladesh cricket team suffered a heart attack, played the biggest innings of his career against India

Faruque Ahmed hospitalised: Former captain of Bangladesh cricket team Farooq Ahmed has suffered a heart attack. He was admitted to Dhaka hospital on Sunday. Farooq Ahmed is currently the vice-president of Bangladesh Cricket Board. Quoting BCB officials, Cricbuzz wrote that Farooq suffered chest pain on Sunday afternoon, after which he was admitted to the hospital, where doctors did an angiogram and found out that there was a blockage in one of his arteries.

Farooq Ahmed under the supervision of doctors

A stent has been inserted in Farooq Ahmed's heart after surgery. At present he is under the supervision of doctors. Bangladesh Cricket Board officials told Daily Sun that his health was unwell since last night. He was taken to the hospital on Sunday afternoon. After an angiogram revealed blockage in the heart, doctors inserted a stent in his chest in the evening. He is currently in CCU.

Played international cricket from 1988-1999

Farooq Ahmed made his international debut in the year 1988 in an ODI match against Pakistan. He played cricket for Bangladesh till 1999. During this period he also captained the Bangladesh cricket team. After retiring from cricket, he also became the national selector of Bangladesh team twice.

Biggest innings against India

Farooq Ahmed, 59, played only 7 ODIs in his 9-year international career, in which he scored only 105 runs at a meager average of 15. During this period, his biggest inning was 57 runs, which he played against India in the ODI match played in Chandigarh in 1990.

Was also the President of BCB, now Vice President

In August 2024, Farooq Ahmed also became the interim president of Bangladesh Cricket Board. Then he replaced Nazmul Hasan who had submitted his resignation. Farooq Ahmed remained on this post for 9 months. He was later replaced by Aminul Islam Bulbul, who is also the current president of Bangladesh Cricket Board. Farooq Ahmed became the vice president of Bangladesh Cricket only last year.
