'Butter fingers': Maxwell, Dwarshuis drop sitters in lightning-struck T20 against India

There are few, if any, better fielders in world cricket than Glenn Maxwell — but the Australian superstar dropped an absolute sitter in the first over of a lightning-struck T20 on Saturday night that ended with no result.
And the Indian batter who was reprieved by Maxwell's improbable blunder, opener Abhishek Sharma, was given another life when Ben Dwarshuis grassed a dolly shortly after.
Rain and lightning led to the match being abandoned with only 4.5 overs complete and ensured India won the five-game series 2-1.
Maxwell dropped a high catch off the bowling of Dwarshuis while fielding at mid-off in Brisbane, before Dwarshuis put down a high catch off the bowling of Nathan Ellis while fielding on the leg side.
Sharma was first reprieved on 5 in the first over, then on 11 in the fourth over.
"What's happening here?" said Indian great Ravi Shastri on the Fox Cricket broadcast.
"Butter fingers!"
Rain and lightning halted play 4.5 overs into India's innings, with the visitors in a strong position at 0-52 after being sent in to bat by Australian skipper Mitch Marsh.
India reached the break in play with Sharma on 23 from 13 balls and Shubman Gill on 29 off 16 deliveries.
But play never resumed, and the match was called off just before 9 p.m. Brisbane time.
Sharma was awarded the man of the series, having chalked up 163 runs at 40.75, including a top score of 68.
The first match was washed out, Australia claimed the second by four wickets, India won the third and fourth by five wickets and 48 runs respectively, and Saturday night's non-result followed.
The three-match ODI series between Australia and India, held before the T20 games, was won by Australia 2-1.
The 2026 T20 World Cup will be hosted by India and Sri Lanka across February and March.
