Chirag Paswan, the leader of the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), expressed on Monday that Bihar's Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is a "necessity" for the state. He highlighted Kumar as a role model for political longevity despite facing numerous challenges. In an interview, Paswan remarked that as a student of political science, he views Kumar as essential, stating this positively. He emphasized that understanding how Kumar has maintained power for two decades amidst various ups and downs would be beneficial for his own political future. Notably, he observed that there is currently no anti-incumbency wave against Kumar.
Paswan, a central minister, asserted that the absence of an anti-incumbency sentiment can be attributed to the welfare schemes implemented and the public's sympathy towards the veteran leader's health. He candidly stated, "There is no anti-incumbency wave. I say this sincerely. In 2020, I noticed complaints about unmet expectations, but whether due to welfare initiatives or personal attacks on Kumar, the situation remains unchanged, even with the memes circulating about him."
He further elaborated on the emotional connection people have with Kumar, especially regarding his health, comparing it to how families relate to their elderly members. Paswan noted that the more people criticize Kumar's health, the more they empathize with him, saying, "People see him still fighting, and that is indeed true."
Paswan also compared Kumar's electoral vigor to that of RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, questioning Yadav's fitness and alertness. He pointed out that while Tejashwi had not yet engaged in campaigning, Kumar was already active in election rallies. He asked rhetorically who appears more fit and alert in terms of health. Paswan emphasized his good relationship with Kumar, recalling that Kumar visited his home during the Chhath festival to partake in the traditional 'Kharna Prasad.' He stressed that such gestures signify positive relations, asserting that if their relationship were strained, Kumar would not have participated in the occasion.
