Exit polls are prepared by different agencies.
After the voting of Bihar elections is over, the exit poll figures have been released. Most of the exit poll data shows the formation of NDA government. Exit polls are prepared by different agencies. Some polling stations in the constituency are selected for the poll. Such centers are selected which include all types of voters based on population, caste, religion, urban-rural. Exit polls have been used for years. Now the question arises that how is the exit poll prepared, where did it start, why was it needed and when did its practice start in India.
Exit polls are prepared by different agencies. After voting, the employees of the survey agency ask many types of questions to the voters who come out of the polling station. Such as age, gender, education and which party did you vote for? These answers are recorded and after their analysis, a trend is issued which tells what is the attitude of the public and which party has got the majority in the poll.
Exit polls in India started much later. The credit for starting this goes to America. It came into discussion for the first time in the year 1936, when an election survey was conducted in New York City, America. This survey was conducted by George Gallup and Claude Robinson. In the survey, voters were asked which presidential candidate they voted for. Franklin D Roosevelt's victory was predicted through the survey. Interestingly, the survey proved correct and Franklin D. Roosevelt became the President of America. Although it was called a survey and not an exit poll, the credit for starting the exit poll in true sense goes to the Netherlands.
This election of America was discussed all over the world. The popularity and results of the survey surprised people. In this way, it started in other countries after America. Such a survey was conducted for the first time in Britain in the year 1837. Next year in 1938, it started in France. Although it was named a survey, Dutch sociologist and former politician Marcel Von Dam laid the foundation of exit poll. Elections were held in the Netherlands and Marcel Vaughan's exit poll proved to be absolutely accurate. Gradually it became a part of elections and people
After America, this survey became popular in many other countries also. After America, a similar survey was conducted for the first time in Britain in the year 1937. Then the next year, i.e. in 1938, for the first time in France, voters were asked about their mood. Till then the exit poll term had not come into use. It started much later in the Netherlands. Exit poll was started on 15 February 1967 by Dutch sociologist and former politician Marcel Von Dam. At that time, Marcel Von Damm's assessment of the results of the elections held in the Netherlands turned out to be absolutely accurate.
In 1957, in the second general elections after independence in India, the survey was conducted by Erica D'Costa, head of the Indian Institute of Public Opinion. However, it was not considered an exit poll. After this, the survey was conducted under the leadership of Dr. Prannoy Roy in the years 1980 and 1984, but officially the year of start of exit poll is considered to be 1996. When the Center for the Study of Developing Societies (CSDS) conducted a survey for the exit poll, journalist Nalini Singh played an important role in it. This poll was conducted for Doordarshan and the data was collected by CSDS.
It was told in the poll that BJP would win the Lok Sabha elections and that is exactly what happened. After this the trend of exit polls increased in the country. In the year 1998, a private news channel broadcast an exit poll for the first time. The trend has continued since then.
