In the glitzy and glamorous world of Bollywood many films come and go but there are a few rare gems that are not only films that entertain us but there are milestones that define generations. One such example of this is the timeless classic Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Even after 25 years of its release this film continues to resonate with the audience and is still very much a part of the pop culture. Karan Johar who directed the film revisits the legacy of his blockbuster debut and reveals who he would cast if the iconic romance were to be reimagined today.
Karan Johar’s Modern Casting for KKHH
In a recent conversation with Sania Mirza Karan Johar reveals his dream cast for a contemporary remake of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. According to him Alia Bhatt would make a perfect modern-day Anjali Ranveer Singh would slip into the role of Rahul and Ananya Panday would take on Tina’s part. He further hinted that the role of Tina could also go to Janhvi Kapoor or Sara Ali Khan referring to the current generation of star kids as “younger nepo babies.”
Karan on Nepotism
Speaking on Nepotism he clarified that he has never cast anyone at the request of their famous parents. “I know they are nepo babies. I’ve seen them grow up in front of me. But none of their parents have ever called me. I have always been the one to call” he said. He even added that several actors have declined his offers in the past.
Reflecting on Dharma’s Journey
Looking back at the evolution of Dharma production from its first film Dostana in 1980 under Yash Johar to the studio’s turbulent years with films like Duniya and Agneepath. Everything changed with the release of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai in 1998. Starring Shah Rukh Khan Kajol and Rani Mukerji the film became a turning point that revived its production and paved the path for mega-successes like Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. Today Dharma Productions stands as one of Bollywood’s most powerful banners valued at nearly Rs 2000 crore.
Upcoming Projects
Karan Johar is now all set for diverse films for the Dharma banner. One of them is Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri a romantic drama starring Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Panday slated for early 2026. He is also producing Naagzilla a fantasy-comedy starring Kartik Aaryan in lead scheduled for release in August 2026.
