"Broadchurch is simply a knockout" states one review of ITV's famous British crime drama - and perhaps that's all you need to know before diving in to binge-watch the series.

Written and created by Chris Chibnall, the TV series was broadcast on ITV for three seasons between 2013 to 2017 and garnered widespread acclaim over the course of its successful run. Now, the beloved British 'whodunnit' mystery is coming to Netflix in just a few days.

Dropping on the streamer on November 18, Broadchurch stars David Tennant and Olivia Colman in the lead as Detective Inspector Alec Hardy and Detective Sergeant Ellie Miller.

Joining them to create a formidable ensemble cast are Jodie Whittaker, Andrew Buchan, Arthur Darvill, Carolyn Pickles, Jonathan Bailey, Matthew Gravelle, Charlotte Beaumont and Adam Wilson - all of whom appeared across the show's three seasons.

Set in the fictional English town of Broadchurch on the coast of Dorset, the famed series first premiered in April 2013 and was nominated for seven BAFTAs for its first season itself. Colman bagged the Best Actress BAFTA for her portrayal of Ellie, while David Bradley won the award for Best Supporting Actor and the show won the coveted Best Drama Series honour. The show also won a Peabody Award for its debut season.

The British crime drama has an average rating of a whopping 92 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes across its three seasons, and has been highly lauded by critics and viewers alike, with one reviewer saying: "It's among the best detective shows - and perhaps even among the best dramas - in several years. It will break your heart and keep you guessing all the way through."

Another critic, in a glowing review of the first series, wrote: "Broadchurch is based on a generic premise, but nothing feels stale. With depth and passion, Colman brings her character's profound questioning to vibrant life."

A third reviewer said of the series' second season: "After the brilliant first season of Broadchurch came to a devastating conclusion, I didn't think a second season was necessary. I was wrong."

Lauding both the lead actors, one critic said: "Most viewers will probably tune in to see Tennant in a dark and unfamiliar role, but as great as he is in the role, the real standout performance comes from Olivia Colman."

Audience reviews were also top-notch, with one fan writing: "Absolutely amazing. The story was absolutely thrilling and had me completely hooked the whole way through. All the actors were absolutely class, especially David Tennant and Olivia Coleman. This is a must watch."

Another viewer wrote in a flattering review: "Incredible cinematography. Compelling, emotional acting. Beautiful setting. The story and characters are so real that it's impossible not to binge. I was enthralled for the entire season, even though the show has no gore, no shootouts, and none of the over the top sensational graphics that are so often seen in crime thrillers."

While one fan of the show commented: "An absolute revelation, it's something I never quite expected. Broadchurch is deep, analytical, dark and... well, unforgettable. Loved it."

Broadchurch will be available to stream on Netflix from November 18 and can presently be watched for free on ITVX.
