Ashwin’s comment came amid ongoing chatter about possible player trades ahead of the next IPL auction. While talking about team strategies and potential moves, he casually noted that Mumbai Indians had already secured Shardul Thakur in a trade deal, hinting that the franchise might be looking for a strong backup for Deepak Chahar who has struggled with injuries. His statement added even more excitement to the pre-auction discussions, where rumours were already flying about a possible Chennai Super Kings–Rajasthan Royals exchange involving Sanju Samson, Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran.
