The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has completed the process of 'Players Retention' before the IPL 2026 season and now the wait is for the auction. With the completion of retention on Saturday 15th November, BCCI has also announced the auction. This time, like the mega auction, the venue of the mini auction has been kept outside India. There will be an auction of players in Abu Dhabi, UAE on 16th December next month. This time, the places of more than 70 players will be filled in the auction, for which all the franchises will have an auction purse of more than Rs 230 crore.
For the last several days, different claims were being made regarding the date and place of the auction but BCCI had not made any announcement regarding it. The Indian board was waiting for the IPL retention to end, the deadline for which was 15th November. This deadline was reached on Saturday and all 10 franchises revealed their retained-released players. Altogether 173 players were retained.
Shortly after the completion of the retention, BCCI announced the date of the auction and said that a total of 77 slots will be filled on December 16 at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi. This means that a total of 77 players, including all the 10 franchises, are vacant and the franchises will bid heavily to fill the places of so many players in Abu Dhabi. For this, all the teams will have a total auction purse i.e. budget of Rs 237.55 crore, which they will be able to spend to buy these 77 players.
