For Chris Eubank Jr, the sins of the father begin and end with his dad.

Ahead of his rematch with Conor Benn tonight, Eubank Jr revealed he is expecting twin boys next year. And so the fighting dynasty will continue - if not the family feud which stretches back almost four decades. For a rivalry which began with the fathers in Birmingham and continued in Manchester will be concluded by the sons in London 35 years later.

Benn, who has a son and a daughter, quickly shot down the mere suggestion of a third generation settling their differences in the ring. And that won't be the only contrast between Eubank Jr and his old man. He will keep his family's private life hidden from prying eyes; not lay it bare for the world to gawp. He will expose his sons to his boxing career; not attempt to protect them from the sport's dark side.

And he will grant them his blessing to follow him into the family business; not tell them they don't have what it takes. Nothing sums up the tumultuous father-and-son dynamic more than the drama which has unfolded around this two-fight series. After being estranged for almost four years, the Eubanks were reunited hours before April's first meeting as Eubank Jr outpointed Benn after 12 gruelling rounds.

"It’s a massive thing to have him back in my life, especially now, because he is their grandfather and that’s a very important relationship," he said. "I hate to think that two years ago - when we hadn’t spoken for a couple of years - if I had a kid then, what would I do?"

But if a truce has settled it has not been without lessons learned. Eubank Jr has long thrown a veil of secrecy over his private life - a decision driven by old wounds. "What people don’t know and what people don’t see, they cannot target, they cannot ruin, they cannot try to interfere with," he added.

"If you look at all these high-profile relationships, how many of them last? Cheating, scandal, divorce, whatever it is, social media does nothing but ruin relationships. I experienced it with my mother and father. Their split was very public and it was hard to watch and it was embarrassing.

"Everybody knew my parents were getting divorced and I knew, from that age, that - whatever relationship I got into - I wasn't going to make it public." And while his dad actively prevented his heir apparent from pulling on a pair of gloves, Eubank Jr will encourage it. "I am excited for them to grow and to learn what their father did," he said.

"I am sure they will sit down and watch my fights with Conor on YouTube because everything is documented now and that is a wonderful thing. "I would never push them into boxing but if they want help, if they want to try it, I will be there to support them. I would not stop, forbid or block them, like my father did to me."

After two wins and a draw from three cross-generational fights, the Eubanks hold an unassailable lead over their Benn counterparts. Expect that advantage to be extended tonight after what promises to be a thrilling final instalment. Like father, like son, after all.
