New Delhi: Margashirsha month is considered very sacred in Hindu religion. It is believed that the divine marriage of Lord Shri Ram and Mother Sita took place in this auspicious month. For this reason, this month is considered special for religious festivals and spiritual practice. Like every year, this time too the festival of Vivah Panchami will be celebrated, which is celebrated with devotion and enthusiasm as Ram-Sita marriage day.
According to the Hindu calendar, the worship of Lord Shri Ram and Mother Sita has special significance on Vivah Panchami, celebrated on the fifth day of Margashirsha Shukla Paksha. It is mentioned in religious beliefs that if devotees get Ram and Sita married on this day, then happiness, peace and prosperity reside in their lives.
According to the Hindu calendar, Margashirsha Shukla Paksha Panchami Tithi will start at 09:22 pm on 24 November 2025, while it will end at 10:56 pm on 25 November 2025. Considering Udayatithi, the festival of Vivah Panchami will be celebrated on 25 November 2025.
On this holy day, take bath in the morning and wear clean clothes. Light a lamp in front of the statue or picture of Lord Shri Ram and Mother Sita. Perform the puja duly by offering Tulsi leaves, flowers, Akshat and worship materials. Devotees remember the marriage of Ram and Sita on this auspicious occasion and wish for their well being.
According to religious belief, on the day Lord Shri Ram and Mother Sita got married, people abstain from marriage on the same day. Behind this there is mention of the painful events of his life.
According to the stories, soon after their marriage, they had to go through many hardships – renouncing the kingdom and going into exile for 14 years, facing difficult situations from Mother Sita, the ordeal and finally the pain of abandonment. It is believed that getting married on this day can create obstacles in the married life of newly married couples. Therefore, marriage ceremonies are not traditionally performed on this date.
Vivah Panchami is considered very auspicious in the Puranas and other religious texts. It is believed that on this date Goswami Tulsidas had completed the composition of the Awadhi version of Shri Ramcharitmanas. This day has special significance from religious, literary and cultural point of view.
