Damini took her career to new heights After winning the Miss India title Meenakshi Seshadri made her debut in 1983 with Painter Babu but the film was not a commercial success. Following this she appeared in Hero which became a blockbuster and her career took off. Damini released in 1993 catapulted her to stardom rivaling actresses like Madhuri Dixit and Sridevi. However after the success of this film she made a shocking decision and ended her film career at the peak of her success. Real name of Meenakshi Seshadri Meenakshi Seshadris real name is Shashikala Seshadri and she was born on November 16 1963 in Sindri Bihar (now Jharkhand). Meenakshi began learning classical dance from childhood. Meenakshi specializes in Bharatnatyam Kuchipudi Kathak and Odissi classical dance. Winning the Miss India title in 1981 brought her to the national stage and this also caught the attention of Subhash Ghai who immediately decided to cast her in his film. Although Meenakshi began her career with Painter Babu it was later her appearance in Subhash Ghais Hero that catapulted her fortunes and career. Worked with these big stars Meenakshi Seshadris pairing with Jackie Shroff on the big screen was very much liked. After the success of Hero Meenakshi worked with many big stars and filmmakers. In her career she worked with stars like Amitabh Bachchan Sunny Deol and Anil Kapoor and ruled the hearts of millions with her innocence and dancing skills. There was a time when Meenakshi Seshadri was at that stage of her career where she was seen giving competition to the most successful actresses of that time Sridevi and Meenakshi Seshadri but then she got married and distanced herself from films and acting. Shifted abroad after marriage Meenakshi stated in an interview that she always preferred a private and quiet life away from fame stardom and glamour. Thats why after marriage she decided to relocate to New York bidding farewell to Indian cinema and moving abroad. Currently Meenakshi lives in Texas USA and runs her own dance academy Charms Dance Academy. From a star to a coach Meenakshi is promoting Indian culture abroad and passing on this heritage to the new generation.
