This opportunity can prove to be very beneficial for those who have been unable to pay their bills for a long time. The government clearly states that the sooner people take advantage of this scheme, the greater the benefits. Importantly, this scheme is applicable to all categories of consumers, including domestic, commercial, and industrial. Learn how to benefit from this scheme.
UP Government Launches Electricity Waiver Scheme
The UP government's electricity waiver scheme will benefit millions of people in the state. The biggest benefit of this scheme is that the entire interest charged on consumers' outstanding bills will be waived. This means that the interest that has been accruing over the years will be completely waived. Additionally, a discount of up to 25 percent will be provided on the original bill amount. This discount will be provided in three phases, with the greatest benefit in the first phase. The first phase, running from December 1, 2025, to December 31, 2025, will offer up to 25 percent relief.
The second phase, running from January 1 to January 31, 2026, will reduce the discount to 20 percent. The final third phase, running from February 1 to February 28, 2026, will offer consumers a 10 percent discount. Officials say that since the discounts will decrease in subsequent phases, consumers should try to pay in the first phase. The scheme aims to reduce the burden of outstanding dues on consumers and accelerate the electricity department's revenue collection.
How to avail the benefits?
To avail the scheme, consumers must visit their nearest electricity subdivision office or bill counter to obtain their outstanding dues. They will be informed of the total outstanding dues, the interest charged, and the payment required after the discount is applied.
Upon payment within the stipulated timeframe, the interest will automatically be removed from the bill, and a fixed percentage discount will be added to the principal amount. The Electricity Department has clearly stated that this relief will be available only to consumers whose outstanding dues are registered in their name. Therefore, consumers are advised to make payments in the first phase of the scheme to maximize their benefits.
