Gardeners urged to do 1 thing with 'brown leaves on lawn' before December

The lawn is filling up with brown leaves, which looks lovely and seasonal but if allowed to settle they will suffocate the lawn and create bare and thin patches. This is where the very handy leaf vacuum and blower comes in. It is designed to collect the leaves and mulch the leaves.

The leaves that fall into beds and borders can be left as they will naturally decompose into the soil and provide cover for insects and wildlife during the colder days. It is the leaves on the lawn that we want to vacuum up and create gardener's gold with, that being leaf-mould.

The leaf vacuuming job may need to be repeated a few times as the leaf dropping season can go into December.

Walk gently over the lawn whilst doing this job is important as we don't want to walk heavily on wet ground.

The leaf vacuum comes with a bag attachment that holds the mulched leaves. Once the bag is full it can simply be emptied into an old compost bag and stored away for about 12 months before being used as mulch on beds and borders.

The cycle can be repeated each year so to create a supply of leaf-mould.
