Former Wolves and Reading forward Kevin Doyle has reportedly taken a swipe at Liverpool's Dominik Szoboszlai following the Republic of Ireland's thrilling victory over Hungary. The 42-year-old, who was providing analysis for RTE Sports, was caught on camera celebrating wildly in the studio before seemingly directing an expletive-laden comment towards the Hungarian captain, referring to him as a "Liverpool c***."

Troy Parrott netted a last-gasp hat-trick to keep Ireland's World Cup aspirations alive. The ex-Tottenham Hotspur striker scored in the 96th minute to secure Heimir Hallgrímsson's team a spot in the playoffs, overturning a 2-1 deficit to clinch a 3-2 win.

Ireland's unexpected triumph over Portugal earlier this week gave them a sliver of hope heading into Sunday's clash in Budapest. Parrott found the back of the net twice in 16 minutes to complete the comeback and propel them into Thursday's playoff draw, where they could face teams such as Wales, Slovakia, Scotland, Czechia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania and Kosovo.

RTE Sport's X account shared a trimmed version of Doyle's jubilant celebration around the studio, but the full scenes after the dramatic win were captured off-camera and posted on social media platform X by user @Liam_D79, which shows Doyle running around the studio before gesturing towards the Liverpool midfielder with an x-rated message.

Doyle was caught on camera saying: "Suck on that you Liverpool c***," before quickly apologising to ex-Liverpool midfielder Didi Hamann, who was also part of the punditry team.

Doyle hung up his boots in 2017 after a stint with Colorado Rapids in America's MLS, before transitioning into punditry and indulging his love for horse racing.

Liverpool's 25-year-old star set up Daniel Lukacs for the opening goal within five minutes, before his Reds teammate Milos Kerkez assisted Barnabas Varga's effort to regain the lead following Parrott's equalising penalty. Szoboszlai was visibly distraught at the final whistle, having missed out on qualifying for the playoffs due to the loss.

In his post-match interview, he struggled to articulate his disappointment, simply stating: "Very much," when asked by local media how much the defeat hurt.

Republic of Ireland's hero Troy Parrott was equally emotional, but for entirely different reasons, following his match-winning hat-trick. Speaking to RTE, he said: "Yeah I'm eh...really really emotional right now...sorry. They're tears of joy.

"What a night. What a night. I'd rather have that pressure on me and whatever happens will happen, that to put it on somebody else and leave it out of my hands. I can't believe it. I really can't believe it. This is why we love football because things like this can happen.

"Look Tony, I love where I'm from. So this means the world to me. My family is here...this is the first time I've cried in years as well. It's unbelievable. Everyone's crying. I said against Portugal that this is what dreams are made of but tonight, I don't think I'll ever have a better night in my whole life.

"It really is a fairytale. You can't even dream about something like that. Honestly, I have no words to describe the emotions right now.

"Everyone wrote us off at the start of the group. But I couldn't have said it enough, that there's always a chance. And we've taken the chance.

"Everyone should be proud of the group of players that are over there. To go down twice and come back like that, it's beautiful." RTE has been contacted for comment.
