Eamonn Holmes was once the undisputed king of daytime television presenting when he hosted This Morning alongside his then-wife, Ruth Langsford. The Northern Irish broadcaster was untouchable for decades, but it all came crashing down in 2020 when he and Ruth were replaced on the ITV magazine show by Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary.
In a major career move, Eamonn joined GB News in 2022 to host its morning news programme alongside Isabel Webster, who was suddenly "axed" last December. Eamonn now presents alongside Ellie Costello, but The Daily Mail has reported that the 65-year-old is clashing with his co-stars while facing ongoing financial pressures from HMRC. Last week, Eamonn claimed his tax row has cost him two houses and more than £1 million. He also revealed he's being made to cough up a further £250,000 for an outstanding tax bill.
A source told the publication: "When the cameras roll, Eamonn still switches it on, but away from that it's very messy. He's in a foul mood, and everyone behind the scenes feels it."
While GB News and Eamonn's representatives have yet to comment on the allegations, it appears that he may be the channel's biggest problem at the moment.
The star is also going through a divorce from Ruth and has been open about his health struggles in recent years, including undergoing spinal surgery for three slipped discs, which have left him in chronic pain.
Eamonn clearly needs to work in order to pay off his outstanding bills, but it's sad to hear he's allegedly getting snappy behind the scenes.
What's GB News supposed to do? Eamonn is one of the biggest names to work for the channel, so his exit might have a significant impact on viewership figures. However, bosses surely can't ignore the claims of his "foul moods".
A healthy working environment is crucial, especially when entering a studio and presenting to a live audience. However, if Eamonn is struggling with mounting financial pressures, it might be best for him to bid farewell to his TV career and find an alternative way to clear his debts before the situation worsens.
Perhaps he can write an autobiography or become a public speaker and retire afterwards? He's clearly going through a difficult time, so we wish him the best, regardless of the outcome.
