There is a possibility of taking a big step in making digital payments easier in India. National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) may soon include biometric based authentication in UPI payments. This means that now for UPI transactions, payment can be confirmed using Face ID or fingerprint, there will be no need to enter PIN.

Currently, for UPI payment, a 4 to 6 digit PIN has to be entered. This acts as a layer of security, but sometimes it slows down the process. This can be a hindrance especially for senior citizens and people in rural areas who find it difficult to use digital platforms.

Biometric authentication such as fingerprint or face ID will allow payments to be approved based solely on physical characteristics. Experts believe that this feature will make digital payments more accessible and secure for people who have difficulty remembering passwords or using smartphones.

Auto-debit transactions like EMI or subscription payments will now be processed only before 10 am or after 9:30 pm. This will reduce the load on the server and there will be no delay in the transaction. Any user will be able to get the bank account information linked to his mobile number only 25 times a day. The status of remaining transactions can be checked only 3 times a day and that too with an interval of 90 seconds each time.
