New Aadhaar App: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is developing a new 'Aadhaar App', which will enable identity verification in a paperless and secure manner. UIDAI announced on Wednesday that this app will give Aadhaar holders complete control over their data. It will also allow them to store and update family members' information.

New Aadhaar App: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is preparing to soon launch an advanced 'Aadhaar App', the primary objective of which is to make the Aadhaar verification process completely digital and paperless. To discuss this new initiative, UIDAI organised an important webinar on Wednesday on the topic of 'Offline Verification with the Aadhaar App.'

More than 250 organizations and individuals from banking, telecommunications, and other key sectors participated in the event, who thoroughly understood the benefits of the new offline verification model.

Say no to photocopies now

The main goal of this new app being developed by UIDAI is to eliminate the use of photocopies of Aadhaar cards and promote offline digital verification for Aadhaar holders. The authority states that this new app will allow users to share their identity in a paperless manner.

UIDAI CEO, Bhuvnesh Kumar, emphasized that the new technology will make verification a secure, convenient, and privacy-focused experience, beneficial for both users and verification agencies. The app will provide the option to verify all or select information related to their unique identity, as well as the ability to update Aadhaar details.

What will be special about the app?

UIDAI officials stated that this new digital tool will provide Aadhaar holders with unprecedented control over their data. Some of the key features of the app include:

Users will be able to control which Aadhaar data is shared.

The app will allow storing Aadhaar details for up to 5 family members.
Facilities to lock/unlock biometrics with just one click for improved security.
Facilities to easily update information such as mobile number and address.
Changes to the Aadhaar card design are also possible.
In addition, UIDAI is considering major changes to the physical aspect of the Aadhaar card. CEO Bhuvnesh Kumar indicated that in the future, Aadhaar cards should only contain a person's photo and QR code, while other personal details will need to be removed from the card. This change will be an important step towards further simplifying Aadhaar privacy and ease of use.
