There is huge demand for smartphones made in India in America. Especially amid the ongoing tariff war between China and America, there has been a tremendous surge in the export of smartphones made in India. From 2024 to 2025, the share of Chinese-made phones in smartphones imported into the US will drop from 61 percent to just 25 percent. Delivery of smartphones made in India to America has increased by 240 percent. Now phones made in India account for 44 percent of smartphones imported into America, whereas a year ago this figure was only 13 percent.
The biggest reason for this change is Apple’s shift of production from China to India. According to Canalys analyst Sanyam Chaurasia, Apple got the highest number of smartphones made in India for the US in the second quarter of 2025. This is the first time that India has become the largest production center for America. Apple has started production of iPhone 16 series Pro models in India. Although the company is still dependent on China for some high-end models, India’s role is continuously increasing.
Apart from Apple, Samsung and Motorola have also increased supplies from India to America. However, at present their scale is smaller than Apple. Motorola still produces more in China and Samsung is dependent on Vietnam. Apple wants to double its production in India in the coming years. According to reports, the company is planning to export 80 million iPhones from India to America by 2026. For this, the pace of production in India will have to be increased. India is no longer just the IT hub of the world, but is also on its way to becoming a global leader in smartphone production. Due to big companies like Apple, India’s share in this sector may increase further in the future.
