New Delhi: Just two days before the Guwahati Test Team India has suffered a major setback. Captain Shubman Gill has not recovered from the neck injury he sustained during the Kolkata Test and has been ruled out of the second Test. Although he arrived in Guwahati with the team on Wednesday and wanted to prove his fitness by batting in the nets the BCCI medical team declared him unfit for the match. Consequently India intent on defending the series will now take the field with a new captain. Medical teams no on Gills fitness According to reports Shubman Gill wanted to bat for at least an hour in the nets but the team management refused to take any risks. The BCCI medical team has advised him to rest for now so that he can be fully fit for the ODI series starting at the end of the month. Rishabh Pant takes over as captain After Gills exclusion wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant will take over the reins of the team. Meanwhile Dhruv Jurel who performed brilliantly in Delhi is expected to bat at number 4. He also batted at the same position in the final innings of the Kolkata Test. Preparations for changes in the Guwahati pitch and team combination The Guwahati pitch is currently slightly green but turn and bounce are expected during the match. Therefore Axar Patel who was given a chance in Kolkata may be benched and Sai Sudharsan is expected to return in his place. Meanwhile all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy who was previously called up due to Shubmans unavailability may also find a place in the playing XI. Coach Kotak gives diplomatic answer on combination Batting coach Sitanshu Kotak did not give a clear answer on the team combination. He said that it is wrong to assume that a particular type of batsman will struggle against a particular bowler.
