Manika Vishwakarma of India takes part in the 74th Miss Universe pageant in Bangkok, Thailand
Manika Vishwakarma, representing India, reached the swimsuit segment of the competition. Originating from Sri Ganganagar in Rajasthan, she is currently studying at Delhi University but did not advance to the Top 12.
This year's pageant was marred by controversy following a harsh reprimand directed at Bosch by the Thai national director, Nawat Itsaragrisil, which led to a walkout and expressions of feminist solidarity. The incident escalated into a dramatic apology from the local organizer.
During the livestreamed sashing ceremony on November 4, Itsaragrisil criticized Bosch for allegedly failing to adhere to his promotional guidelines. When she attempted to defend herself, he called for security.
Bosch left the room, joined by several contestants, including Miss Universe 2024, Victoria Kjær Theilvig from Denmark, in a show of support.
Bosch expressed her feelings to Thai reporters, stating, "What your director did is not respectful: he called me dumb. If it takes away your dignity, you need to go."
Raul Rocha Cantu, president of the Miss Universe Organization, condemned Itsaragrisil's actions as "public aggression" and "serious abuse."
According to her official Miss Universe biography, Bosch has studied fashion in both Mexico and Italy, focusing on sustainable design and utilizing discarded materials. She has also volunteered with sick children, advocated for environmental awareness, and supported mental health initiatives.
