Beloved pub chain Wetherspoon is known for its cheap pints and very reasonably priced food, but they often mix up their menu with some items being discontinued. They have pubs all over the nation thanks to over 800 locations serving up the likes of pizzas, burgers and breakfasts.

The chain has even launched their Christmas menu this week, with everything from a turkey dinner to festive inspired burgers and lighter bites on the bill. Wetherspoon has been in business since 1979, so there has been plenty of things coming and going from their menus in the years since. However, some items the pub once served may come as a surprise...

Mexican Monday

The week used to start off with a bang at Wetherspoons thanks to Mexican Monday. As you can probably guess, the theme was Mexican-inspired dishes including build-your-own burritos, nachos or a naked burrito.

Fillings ranged from Quorn chilli to BBQ pulled pork, rib-eye steak and chicken breast strips. If that didn't take your fancy, you could pick a BBQ pulled pork and cheese quesadilla.

Prices came in at £5.49 for the meal with a soft drink while it would cost £6.49 if you fancied a tipple. Sadly, the deal ended in 2017 and has now been replaced with the Small Plates Deal on a Monday.

Sunday roast dinners

Another theme of the week was a range of roast dinners, which are completely off the menu now expect from the Christmas range. The Sunday Club allowed punters to pick from hand-carved topside of beef, roast pork, half roast chicken or a lentil, mushroom and mozzarella roast.

They were served up with roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, sage and onion stuffing, vegetables and gravy. It cost just £8.09 with a drink and you could even go large for an extra quid thanks to the addition of mashed potato and an extra Yorkshire. The final Sunday Club was on Mother's Day in 2016.

Chicken chow mein

Perhaps the most surprising item that once graced Wetherspoons' menu was the chicken chow mein. It didn't last long on the menu, with it appearing from 2016 to 2017.

And it certainly doesn't seem missed as one person on Reddit reflected: "Horrific, this one can stay gone." Another person shared: "Not good. Overly soft noodles and vegetables. Pure mush."

Drive Thru burger

A much-loved discontinued item comes with the Five Guys-inspired burger. It came wrapped up in tinfoil along with six onion rings and chips.

Upon its arrival on the menu, Wetherspoon said it was made with 100% British beef served in a brioche bun with baconnaise, maple bacon slices, American cheese and gherkin slices.

Hot dogs

To make room for the arrival of the Drive Thu burger, something had to give and that came in the form of the full range of hot dogs. They were a huge hit with fans, with many complaining when they were suddenly removed and a petition even launched to declare they come back.

On the menu was a classic hot dog served with chips for £5.69 with a soft drink and the chance to upgrade. The gourmet range included a BBQ hot dog with pulled pork and cheese as well as a Mexican dog with chilli and cheese on top.

One hot dog lover declared: "Still mourning the loss of the pulled pork hogdog." Another added: "I remember them well. Loved the chilli dog. Love to see them make a return."

The mixed grill

In a blow to Spoons fans this year, the menu had a huge shakeup with the removal of the mixed grill and steaks. The sad news came in May when the items, which were often considered as menu staples, disappeared.

With their removal, also came a change to Tuesday Club as it used to focus on steaks. Now, it has been replaced by a gourmet burger night, which includes some of the latest additions to the menu such as The Big Smoke, Buffalo and Cheese Meltdown.
