Delhi–Lucknow Railways update: It is duly duly accepted among commuters of Indian Railways that trains on the Delhi-Lucknow railway line get delayed due to various infrastructure reasons. It is a reported fact that the 493 km Delhi–Lucknow line is one of the most saturated sections. With over 50 percent of trains running at low average speeds due to heavy pressure the railway line witnesses massive delays to the track issues. Why is a there speed delay at Delhi-Lucknow railway line? However work has focused on strengthening bridges over the past two years in order to improve turning points and upgrading station yards. Yet despite these efforts the average speed on the Delhi-Lucknow railway line has so far increased only to around 60 kmph. Several stretches remain problematic. While some sections allow speeds of 110 kmph others are restricted to just 30 to 50 kmph. Noticeably in the recent update Indian Railways is working to raise the maximum speed of trains on the Delhi–Lucknow section to 130 kmph offering hope of quicker and smoother journeys for passengers. Whats the current speed at Delhi-Lucknow railway line Currently the Rajdhani Express runs on this route at an average speed of 69 kmph while the Lucknow Mail moves even slower at 59 kmph. To improve this technical work has begun at nearly 280 locations. A major step involves replacing 280 kg sleepers with stronger 335 kg sleepers especially on the 18 km stretch between Kafurpur and Kankather. These upgraded sleepers are necessary to support higher speeds. In addition an automatic signal system is being installed between Ghaziabad and Hapur to ensure better traffic control and smoother movement of trains. Thus you can now imagine reaching Lucknow from Delhi in noticeably less time than today. According to Senior Section Engineer Mahendra Singh sleeper replacement and related work have started and will be completed soon helping trains achieve the planned speed of 130 kmph on this key route.
