The Bhadohi police have apprehended an individual linked to a fraudulent scheme that involved using fake certificates of freedom fighters to secure MBBS admissions in government and autonomous medical colleges across Uttar Pradesh. A senior police official provided this update on Monday.

Authorities revealed that this group had been operational for an extended period, successfully swindling numerous candidates out of millions of rupees for admissions.

The arrested suspect has been identified as Shubham Singh, a 27-year-old resident of Jigna in Mirzapur, who works as a lab technician at a government health center in Jamunia, Ghazipur district. He was caught on Sunday while attempting to collect a pre-arranged sum from a candidate, with ₹4.8 lakh in cash found in his possession.

According to Superintendent of Police Abhimanyu Manglik, the accused had negotiated a deal of ₹15 lakh with the father of a student named Divyanshu Verma for MBBS admission, and was there to collect ₹5 lakh on Sunday.

The investigation was initiated following a complaint from the Director General of Medical Education. Upon suspicion, the certificates of nine students who had enrolled in the 2012-13 academic year were examined, revealing all to be fraudulent.

Based on a report from the District Magistrate, cases of fraud and other charges have been filed against these nine students. During questioning, one student named Shubham admitted to having contacted Dr. Ghanshyam Verma at the health center, through whom the deal was arranged. The police are now actively searching for other members of the gang.

The arrested individual will be presented in court.
