Jason Manford has left fans reeling after quitting his Absolute Radio show and hanging up his mic after eight years on air. The actor and comedian, 44, presented his final Sunday morning programme at the weekend and has yet to reveal why he's decided to walk away, sparking a wave of disappointment from loyal listeners. It marks the second major gig he has exited in the past 12 months, adding to speculation about what might come next.
Former Waterloo Road star Jason took to social media to share the news, telling fans: "After 8 years of chatting absolute nonsense with no consequence (or 'Nonsequence' as Steve insists!), it's time to hang up the headphones and say goodbye to my Absolute Radio Sunday morning show. "Nearly 400 episodes of nonsense, laughter and whatever popped into our heads between the songs. From those early weeks with a revolving cast of comedians to the strange blur of lockdown & since with Steve Edge, it's meant the world to be part of your Sundays.
"Too many guests to mention but having friends drop in so many times for a chinwag was a real treat, special shoutout to the always wonderful @thesarahmillican who did the show more than most."
He went on to thank listeners for sticking with him throughout the years, adding: "Over 800,000 of you tuned in every week and somehow made it one of the most listened to shows on the station. That's humbling & a real privilege. Thank you.
"Thank you for inviting us into your mornings, your cars, your kitchens and your dog walks. It's meant more than you'll ever know.
"Watch this space in 2026, because I'm sure there will be more Nonsequence (still not convinced that's a real word, Steve) coming your way."
Fans rushed to comment on the news, with many sharing their disappointment over Jason's exit.
One wrote: "We listen every Sunday and have a good giggle while cleaning and prepping the roast! Thanks for the entertainment both, gutted!"
Another said: "Devastated! Hope you can continue with a podcast of your own. Always look forward to listening to you both every week!"
And a third added: "Oh no. Utterly devastated. You're my Monday morning podcast. Will miss you both so much, together you're hilarious."
The decision comes after Jason left TV fans disappointed when he quit Waterloo Road a year after being cast as headteacher Steve Savage.
After his exit, he told viewers: "Such an honour to have been trusted with this role.
"I loved my time on the show, with the wonderful team from catering to producers, to everyone in front and behind the lens.
"Great writing and directing throughout and everyone made it so easy for me to join the Waterloo Road family."
