Submitting a Life Certificate is an essential yearly process for pensioners, ensuring that their pension continues without interruption. With the deadline approaching, thousands of pensioners rush to banks or government offices every year to complete this formality. However, this time the process has become far more convenient. Pensioners can now generate and submit their Life Certificate right from home by simply making a phone call—no long queues, no travel, and no additional hassle.
The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), understanding the difficulties faced by senior citizens, has partnered with India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) to offer doorstep Life Certificate services. This means pensioners will no longer have to visit branch counters physically. Instead, the Life Certificate can be created digitally at home, verified instantly, and submitted to the pension authority on the same day.
A Life Certificate, also known as Jeevan Pramaan, is a digital document that confirms a pensioner is alive and eligible to receive pension payments. The certificate is Aadhaar-based and carries a unique identification number. Once generated, it is automatically transmitted to the pension disbursing agency, which then continues releasing the monthly pension without delay.
Since the document is linked to Aadhaar biometrics, it ensures secure identification. The digital process eliminates paperwork, reduces manual verification, and prevents pension stoppage due to incomplete documentation.
With the new arrangement, more than 1.65 lakh post offices and over 3 lakh postal employees across India will assist pensioners by visiting their home to complete biometric authentication and issue the Life Certificate instantly. These postal workers are equipped with fingerprint and facial biometric devices, allowing quick and accurate verification.
The biggest relief — this service is absolutely free for EPFO pensioners. Whether you live in a metro city or in a remote rural area, doorstep support ensures no senior citizen is left behind.
Life Certificates must be submitted every year in November. For 2025, the submission window runs from November 1 to November 30. Pensioners who do not submit the certificate before the deadline risk having their pension temporarily stopped. To avoid last-minute rush and uncertainty, it is advisable to complete the process early.
Apart from doorstep services, pensioners have multiple options to get their certificate issued:
Through Jeevan Pramaan portal using a mobile, computer or tablet with a biometric device
By visiting the nearest Life Certificate centre
(Bank, CSC centre, or Government office)
By locating available centres using the website jeevanpramaan.gov.in
These options are especially useful for those comfortable with digital processing or located near service centres.
This initiative marks a significant milestone in simplifying public financial services. For elderly pensioners, especially those facing health or mobility challenges, home delivery of Life Certificate services brings peace of mind and ensures continuity of income.
With just one phone call, pensioners can now secure their financial independence without stepping outside their homes — an important step towards a more senior-friendly digital India.
