PTC Web Desk: Comedian Kunal Kamra has once again stirred political controversy after posting a photograph on social media wearing a T-shirt that appeared to mock the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). The post triggered a strong backlash from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which has warned of possible police action.
Maharashtra minister and senior BJP leader Chandrashekhar Bawankule stated that law enforcement would act against anyone sharing “objectionable” content online. His remarks came a day after Kamra uploaded the viral image featuring a dog graphic alongside a reference to the RSS, the ideological parent of the BJP.
Sanjay Shirsat, a Cabinet minister from the Shiv Sena (the BJP’s alliance partner), said the saffron party must issue a firm response, noting that Kamra had earlier targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
“He has earlier attacked PM Modi and Eknath Shinde, and now he is targeting the RSS directly. The BJP should respond strongly,” Shirsat said. The minister added that the Shiv Sena had confronted Kamra earlier when he made remarks critical of Shinde.
This is not the comedian’s first brush with controversy. In March, he had mocked Shinde during a comedy show by altering the lyrics of a popular Bollywood song. The comments led to outrage within the Shiv Sena, and party workers vandalised the Habitat Comedy Club in Mumbai’s Khar area, along with a hotel housing the venue.
Amid the latest uproar, Kamra clarified on social media that the image in question was not taken at a comedy club. BJP leaders, however, have denounced the post, calling it offensive and provocative.
