UIDAI has also stated that the date of birth recorded on the Aadhaar card cannot be considered authentic, as it is not mandatory to provide a birth certificate, school records, or hospital-issued documents when applying for an Aadhaar card.
The Uttar Pradesh government has made a significant decision regarding Aadhaar cards. The government has clarified that the Aadhaar card will no longer be considered a birth certificate. In this regard, the government has issued instructions to all relevant departments, stating that the Aadhaar card should not be accepted as a birth certificate.
The Yogi government in Uttar Pradesh has taken this decision at a time when the SIR process is ongoing across the country, and Azam Khan and his son have been sentenced to seven years in prison in the case of two PAN cards being used through Aadhaar cards. The biggest question is: if the Aadhaar card is not proof of birth, then which documents should be considered proof of birth? Let's find out more...
Why is birth not being accepted?
A letter issued by the Uttar Pradesh Planning Department states that a person's date of birth is not verified by any valid document when making an Aadhaar card; it is self-declared. Furthermore, the UIDAI has also stated that the date of birth recorded on the Aadhaar card cannot be considered authentic, as it is not mandatory to provide a birth certificate, school records, or hospital-issued documents when making an Aadhaar card. Consequently, a person's actual date of birth may be different. Similar to Uttar Pradesh, the Maharashtra government has also issued an order in this regard, stating that the Aadhaar card will not be considered a document for obtaining a delayed birth certificate.
So, which documents will be valid?
The Uttar Pradesh Planning Department has stated that only certain documents will be valid as proof of birth. Of these, the birth certificate issued by the Health Department at the time of a child's birth will be the most valid. Additionally, a high school marksheet can also be considered a birth certificate. Furthermore, a certificate issued by a municipal body can also be considered as proof of birth.
