Dehradun: Baba Ramdev’s company Patanjali Ayurveda Limited has once again faced difficulties. The Food Safety and Drug Administration of Uttarakhand has imposed a total penalty of Rs 1.40 lakh on Patanjali and two other firms associated with it. The action was taken after the company’s cow-ghee samples repeatedly failed to meet food safety standards.
Samples collected during routine inspection in October 2020 were tested at the state lab at Rudarpur and the National Food Laboratory (NFL) at Ghaziabad.
Both the reports termed the ghee as of poor quality and unsafe for consumption.
After reviewing the reports, the matter was presented before the Adjudicating Officer, Pithoragarh in February 2022. The officer while pronouncing the decision—
imposed a fine of
The ghee sample was collected during routine inspection from a general store in Kasni area of Pithoragarh district in 2020. The Rudrapur Lab report stated that the product failed food safety standards and could pose a threat to public health.
A notice was issued to Patanjali in 2021 after the Rudarpur lab results. The sample was sent to the Central Laboratory (NFL) at the company’s request, but the NFL’s detailed report dated November 2021 also confirmed the first report.
After examination of all legal aspects the matter was referred to the Court of Adjudicating Officer/Additional District Magistrate, Pithoragarh in February 2022, where the proceedings were concluded.
