A newly married woman in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur was forced out of her husband’s home within 24 hours of her wedding after she refused to bring a motorbike or Rs 2 lakh as dowry. The shocking incident took place in the Juhi area, where bride Lubna and groom Mohammad Imran had tied the knot on November 29 as per Muslim customs.
Lubna entered her in-laws’ home hoping to begin a new chapter. The groom’s family immediately surrounded her—not to welcome her, but to demand a Royal Enfield Bullet or Rs 2 lakh in cash. They also allegedly blamed her for “bringing nothing” for Imran.
“An argument broke out as soon as I arrived. They told me, ‘Since you didn’t bring a Bullet bike, go back and bring Rs 2 lakh,’” Lubna said.
She further claimed that her in-laws confiscated her jewellery and the cash gifted by her family. They then reportedly assaulted her and threw her out of the house when she refused to meet their demand.
Lubna’s mother recalled her daughter returning home in tears around 7:30 pm, narrating the ordeal she had just escaped. She said the family had spent lakhs on the wedding. The list of items gifted to Imran’s family included a sofa set, TV, washing machine, dressing table, water cooler, dinner sets, clothing, and steel and brass kitchenware.
“They never demanded a bike before the marriage. If we had known, we would not have agreed to the alliance,” her mother said.
The family is now seeking justice and reimbursement of their wedding expenses. A case has been registered against Imran and his relatives, and the police have launched an investigation.
