Which apps pose a threat to Pakistan?
Sama TV report (Ref.) states that all unregistered and unsafe VPN apps are a threat to the security of Pakistan. Government officials and experts have demanded that only licensed and tested VPNs should be allowed to run. Officials say that free VPNs secretly collect people’s data and sell it. This puts people’s privacy and security of bank accounts at risk. These VPNs are used by hackers, fraudsters and anti-national people while remaining anonymous on social media. With these apps, there is a fear of virus, ransomware and surveillance from foreign servers in the phone.
In which countries is it already banned?
Many countries like India, Dubai, Saudi Arabia and Bangladesh have already banned illegal VPNs. These countries are doing this for their own security. On similar lines, Pakistani experts are also demanding a ban.
These companies got VPN license
These apps may soon be banned in Pakistan, because from November 13, PTA has started giving license to VPN companies. Its purpose is to ensure that only legal and secure VPNs run. Many companies have received licenses so far. These include Alpha 3 Cubic (Steer Lucid VPN), Zettabyte (Crest VPN), Nexilium Tech (Kestrel VPN), UKI Conic Solutions (QuiXure VPN) and Vision Tech 360 (Kryptonyme VPN). These companies can now provide secure VPN to people and offices.
Pak minister said- terrorists are using these apps
Minister of State in Pakistan Government, Talal Chaudhary said that terrorists remain anonymous on social media by using VPN. He said that the government does not want to harm the IT sector. IT companies should keep using registered VPNs. It is necessary to register a VPN to keep an eye on the activities of terrorists. The country will remain safe only with a registered VPN and those doing the right thing will not face any problems.
