Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh feels it is disappointing that the future of big names like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli is being discussed by people who have not achieved much. Still he believes both players can continue until the 2027 ODI World Cup. Rohit 38 and Kohli 37 now only play ODIs and many are wondering if they can keep going until the World Cup in South Africa especially with the ODI schedule getting smaller around the world.
Head coach Gautam Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar have not given a clear answer on the matter but both players have hinted that they want to keep competing for their spots.
It is beyond our understanding. I may not be able to answer because I have been a player myself and what I have seen has happened to me as well. It has happened to many of my teammates but it is very unfortunate. We dont talk about it or have a discussion about it Harbhajan said this during a chat while working as part of the expert commentary team in the ongoing DP World ILT20 Season 4.
I am so happy when I see a player like Virat Kohli who is still going strong. It is a bit unfortunate that those people are deciding about their future who have not achieved much Indias fourth-highest Test wicket-taker with 417 wickets said this when he was asked if the two players were being treated properly.
There is still more than a year before the World Cup begins but Harbhajan believes Rohit and Kohli will be in top form for the tournament and will set high standards for younger players. Kohli has hit two centuries in a row in the current South Africa series while a fitter Rohit has scored two fifties and an unbeaten 121 in his last four innings.
They have always scored runs and have always been great players for India they have done extremely well as batters and are leaders of the team. Im so happy for them they are going very very strong.
Not just going strong but setting the example for the younger generation to follow and what it takes to be a champion. So well done Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma for setting the right example the 45-year-old added.
