A major airport in the UK is transforming its departure lounge in a huge revamp. Bristol Airport, serving passengers in the South West and Wales, is undergoing a £400 million refurbishment. It's been revealed the departures lounge will be undergoing a £60 million revamp in a bid to make the area more spacious and to increase the number of shops and restaurants by nearly double the current amount.
The lounge will be filled with 17 new units, including premium retail brands and dining options. Spaces are still available for businesses to tender for, with new island units incorporated in the design.
Kate Gwyther, Head of Retail at Bristol Airport, said: "The new departure lounge will be bright and spacious where customers can relax, explore a variety of new shops, and enjoy a wider range of dining options to suit every schedule, taste and budget.
"It's all designed to make the holiday feel like it starts the moment passengers arrive."
As England's third largest regional airport, flights are available to 127 destinations across the globe, with 33 countries served directly. It's set to take three years for the revamp to be completed.
In the middle of the new departures lounge, passengers can expect a new assisted travel lounge. It will be double the size of the current one, with accessible toilets and a larger washroom.
Investment will also go towards the arrival hall, including an additional baggage carousel as the airport hopes to increase capacity from 10 million to 15 million passengers a yea.
