A woman has been charged with murder after a newborn baby was allegedly thrown from the eleventh floor of a block of flats. Police accuse the woman, who they have only identified using her surname, Xia, of killing her son because she was upset after breaking up with her boyfriend.

The 22-year-old delivered her baby at home in Taichung City, Taiwan, at 3am on November 28 last year, according to local police. She reportedly wrapped him in a blanket before allegedly throwing him out of a window "in a fit of anger".

She was arrested in Taichung City on November 26, according to The Sun.

Detectives said the baby had shown signs of life, including breathing and a pulse, after falling into a flowerbed.

But he is reported to have subsequently died from organ damage, internal bleeding and multiple fractures.

It was believed initially that the fall was an accident, but a murder investigation was launched after medics raised concerns.

The Sun reports that on the night of the incident Xia and her ex-boyfriend, named only as Zhuang, rowed over who the baby's father was.

Xia and Zhuang reportedly broke up in March last year, with police saying she found out she was pregnant in October 2024.

Kao Ta-Cheng from Chung Shan University Hospital claimed the parents had been arguing about the identity of the baby's dad.
