When it comes to tiny villages surrounded by gorgeous countryside, it doesn't often get more scenic than this adorable spot. Located in the beautiful Lake District, there is a lovely little village surrounded by some of the best countryside walks that the UK has to offer. With around 80 residents, it's no surprise that this place flies under the radar for many people. Set against rolling green hills, this place is one of the most authentic English countryside villages to marvel at.

Kentmere is located in Cumbria, right in the middle of the Lake District National Park. Houses here, of which there are around 60, are spread on either side of the River Kent. This area is a hit with walkers, cyclists and lovers of nature. If you are planning a 2026 road trip around theLake District or the North of England in general, perhaps this spot should be near the top of your list. Naturally, Kentmere is a hit with those who want to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life to breathe in fresh countryside air and take in some of the best views in all of Britain.

The most famous attraction here is the Kentmere Horseshow, which is a looped walk offering incredible views. Reviews of this are stellar, and people praise it for its accessibility and scenery.

One Tripadvisor reviewer said of the hiking route: "This is a really great walk, superb views and sense of achievement. Clearly defined route, not too much scrambling or exposed."

Another said: "Great views and a relatively easy walk once you are up. Plenty of Wainwrights to tick off as well. The later half of the walk was little boggy but this is weather dependent so be prepared.
Long day covering a lot of distance."

But that's not the only thing to do in the area. There is also Kentmere Reservoir and Kentmere Pike, both of which are also well-reviewed by nature lovers.

While Kentmere is a tiny village, there are plenty of places for tourists to stay. Some of the top picks include Maggs Howe Camping Barn, Pout Howe and Maggs Cottage.

A short drive from the centre of the village, there are some lovely pubs where you can grab a bite and a pint after a long day of exploring the outdoors. Some top picks include The Eagle & Child Inn, Watermill Inn & Brewery, and Queen's Head.

If hiking isn't you thing, you can also get great views of the countryside while driving through. That way, you could take in a few Cumbria villages all in one or two days.

Some of the other villages to visit in Cumbria include Grasmere, Keswick, and Ambleside. The closest major city to Kentmere is Lancaster, which is around 30 miles away. However, the town of Kendal, which is just 10 miles away.
