Brits wanting to get into the full festive spirit may want to consider a trip to a charming market town in North Yorkshire.

Sky's new Christmas film Tinsel Town starring Kiefer Sutherland, Rebel Wilson and Danny Dyer has landed on our screens, and while it may be a play on Los Angeles' nickname, it was actually filmed in the UK.

The new comedy sees Hollywood action star Bradley Mack (Kiefer Sutherland) shocked when his franchise is cancelled. He heads to England hoping to rebuild his career, but his disgruntled agent decides to send him to the charming village of Stoneford to star in the town's production of Cinderella. There, he meets an eccletic group of locals including choreographer Jill (Rebel Wilson).

The town of Stoneford may be fictional, but it wasn't created as a set; the charming town of Knaresborough in North Yorkshire was used for filming.

It's not difficult to see why it caught the production team's attention when they were scouting for locations, given its beautiful medieval buildings, riverside location, and cobbled streets lined with independent shops, cafes and pubs.

Then there is a beautiful backdrop thanks to the nearby Victorian viaduct. Knaresborough's town centre boasts a location on the cliffs right above the River Nidd, with the railway viaduct crossing the Nidd Gorge (if you arrive by train, you'll get treated to some pretty breathtaking views). Meanwhile at the base of the cliffs, you'll find a scenic promenade where you can enjoy some leisurely strolls to take in the views.

Meanwhile, the town's market has been running for over 500 years and opens every Wednesday, with heaps of stalls offering up everything from local food and drinks to pretty crafts and clothes. (TV fans may recognise the Market Square as it was used for Christmas market scenes in the Sky film).

For those who love a good picturesque walk, Knaresborough won't disappoint. On its website, Visit North Yorkshire's team recommends a walk along the river to take in some of the town's historic spots including the 12th century home of a medieval hermit, and Mother Shipton's Cave next to the Petrifying Well - the latter two making up England's oldest visitor attraction, with ticketed entry dating back to the 1630s.

Prefer a walk out in the countryside? There are heaps of woodlands and hiking trails in the area, including routes which cross the Nidd Gorge if you fancy a bit of a challenge. The region is also home to the 84-hectare Staveley Nature Reserve, which has a shallow lagoon surrounded by a plethora of plants.

It wasn't just Knaresborough that featured in Tinsel Town; locals spotted the cast and crew filming in Wetherby, while some scenes were reportedly shot at Versa Studios in Leeds. However, Knaresborough is where the bulk of the filming took place; in fact, it's even been the host of the star-studded premiere, with local cinemas hosting special screenings too.
