In Hinduism, the Tulsi plant is considered very sacred and revered. It is believed to be an embodiment of Goddess Lakshmi and is also very dear to Lord Vishnu. Regularly offering water to the Tulsi plant and performing Tulsi Puja is believed to bring happiness and prosperity to the home. However, the scriptures mention certain dates and days when offering water to and touching the Tulsi plant is considered forbidden. It is said that violating these rules can anger Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Vishnu, potentially leading to increased difficulties in the home.

Key Dates When Watering Tulsi is Restricted:

Ekadashi Tithi
Ekadashi Tithi is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. According to the Padma Purana, on Ekadashi, Tulsi Mata observed a fast without water for Lord Vishnu. Therefore, offering water on this day breaks her fast. Thus, on both Ekadashi days (Shukla and Krishna Paksha) every month, one should not offer water to the Tulsi plant or pluck its leaves.

Sunday
Sunday is dedicated to the Sun God. It is believed that Tulsi Mata rests on Sundays. According to religious beliefs, Tulsi asked for a boon that she should not be given water on Sundays. Therefore, one should avoid watering the Tulsi plant on Sundays. Touching the Tulsi plant on this day is also considered inauspicious.

Lunar and Solar Eclipses
Eclipse periods are considered inauspicious in the scriptures. During this time, the influence of negative energy increases. Therefore, touching or watering the Tulsi plant is prohibited during lunar and solar eclipses. Any water kept near the Tulsi plant should also be removed before the eclipse.

Sankranti
On Sankranti, the sun enters a new zodiac sign. Offering water to the Tulsi plant is not considered auspicious during this time either. Therefore, on the day of Sankranti, one should perform Tulsi Puja, but should not offer water.

At Night
According to the scriptures, one should not touch or offer water to the Tulsi plant after sunset. The best time to offer water to the Tulsi plant is at sunrise.
