Myanmar hospital :  More than thirty people were murdered in a Myanmar military airstrike at a hospital in Mrauk-U on Wednesday night, according to news agency AFP, which cited a humanitarian worker on the ground. As the junta steps up its onslaught in anticipation of elections later this month, the attack targeted the main hospital in western Rakhine state, close to the Bangladeshi border.

Wai Hun Aung, an aid worker on the scene, confirmed that at least 31 people had died and warned that the number would probably increase. He called the aftermath “terrible.” He said that 68 people had been hurt, and further deaths were anticipated.

20 corpses were discovered.
At least twenty shrouded remains were discovered outside the hospital throughout the course of the night.

As the nation gets closer to elections later this month, the incident is the most recent in a string of regular and deadly aircraft attacks on armed pro-democracy groups. The strikes often result in fatalities among civilians. Last week, the military of Myanmar launched an airstrike on a tea store in the upper-central area of Sagaing, killing at least eighteen people and injuring twenty more.

Since the army overthrew Aung San Suu Kyi’s elected government on February 1, 2021, sparking strong public protest, Myanmar has been under anarchy. Many opponents of military authority took up guns when nonviolent protests were put down with deadly force, and today there is war in many regions of the nation.
