New Delhi: Indian cricket team’s young opener Abhishek Sharma has now become a challenge for every bowler. His continuous sixes in the T-20 format have earned him the nickname of “Sixer King” among the fans.

However, this success of Abhishek was not achieved overnight. The story behind it is years of hard work, dedication and support from some special people. Let us know what is the real reason behind the success of Abhishek Sharma.

Daily routine started at 4 in the morning

Abhishek’s father and first coach, Rajkumar Sharma, said, “Even when he was 13-14 years old, his daily routine would start at 4 in the morning. He would work hard in the gym, run, swim and other fitness activities. Then he would bat for hours in the nets. Even in the evening, his enthusiasm never diminished.”

Used to hit sixes at the age of 11

Punjab’s junior coach Arun Bedi is still amazed at how Abhishek used to hit such long sixes at such a young age. “At that age, kids just learn to hit the ball properly on the bat, whereas Abhishek was hitting lofted sixes. He would stand anywhere and send the ball straight out of the stands,” he said.

Yuvraj Singh became godfather

During the lockdown, Abhishek got the support of Yuvraj Singh, which was a big gift for him. Yuvraj not only trained with him in the nets but even today tries to correct him over the phone. Abhishek’s father said, “Abhishek is still scared of Yuvraj. A mistake happened and a call came ‘What are you doing?'”

Abhishek also started playing golf with Yuvraj. Brian Lara and Yuvraj’s advice was that golf helps in improving bat swing and timing. The result of this is that today Abhishek’s bat swing is considered the best in the world.

1000+ runs and lots of sixes in 30 T20 matches

Scoring more than 1000 runs after playing only 30 matches in international T-20 cricket and hitting sixes continuously, these figures tell their own story. All this is the result of the hard work of a son who used to wake up at 4 in the morning, send balls out of the stands, and even today fears a scolding from his mentor Yuvraj.
