As the end of the year 2025 approaches, annual reports and trending lists start appearing everywhere. In this sequence, Apple has released this year’s App Store list, which includes information about the most downloaded apps and games in 2025.

If we look at the list, it is clear that AI apps are becoming increasingly popular on the Apple App Store. In the US, ChatGPT has taken the No. 1 spot in the category of free iPhone apps this year. This shows that users are rapidly increasing acceptance of AI in their daily lives.

Most downloaded apps of Apple iPhone

ChatGPT overtaking previously popular apps like Google, WhatsApp, Instagram and TikTok is a sign that people are changing the way they use their phones. Meta’s text-based app Threads has secured the second position while several Google apps have managed to make it to the top 10.

As the most downloaded free iPhone game, Minecraft once again took the title of top paid game.

iPad apps status

There appears to be some change in the list of downloaded apps for iPad users. Among free apps, YouTube was the most downloaded, followed by ChatGPT, Netflix, Disney+ and Prime Video. In terms of paid apps, Procreate and Procreate Dreams still remain the favorites for creators. Roblox in gaming, Block Blast! And Fortnite are included in the top list of free iPad games, while Minecraft, Geometry Dash and Stardew Valley hold positions in the best selling list of paid games.
